The Immovable Pea

To be

a scarf hunched on his shoulders,

pin clasped to lapel,

socks peeking through cuffs;

To be

a dent in the mattress, a chip in the glass,

a dash cam comrade;

to float

as an extension,

to pass

as a ghost,

should be enough,

ought to be enough

And yet,

you are:

chip cradling gold: Kintsugi.

A house of mirrors shattered by

the immovable pea.

Our gladiator's victory scar,

smoke imprinting on skin:

Not to be,

not to be,

not to be.
